Nickie was born and raised in Phoenix Arizona and is a 3rd generation native in the Valley of the Sun. She attended high school at Paradise Valley High where she first became interested in agriculture and horticulture through the FFA. Right after high school she earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration Magnum Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University. During her time in high school, she worked for Artie’s Ace Hardware for 6 years as a Buyer and Account Reconciliation Manager. Starting her sophomore year in college, she started working at DTR to help her dad as her sister was heading off to start her teaching career.
Currently she holds the position of Vice President of DTR Landscape Development, L.L.C. She has worked there for the past 15 years working alongside her dad, Dick Roberts and husband, Jason Velten. Nickie has bid and procured several commercial construction projects for DTR that range from office buildings to a ground up high school with multiple athletic fields. To date, one of her greatest accomplishments was being recognized as the Landscape Contractor of the Year in 2017 through the Arizona Landscape Contractors Association and she was honored to be able to share that achievement with her dad. Nickie loves her job in the landscape industry and enjoys the transformation of her team taking a field of dirt to a field of beauty.
Her son Mason and her family and good friends are the most important aspects of her life. She enjoys spending time with them outdoors camping, fishing, hiking, shooting, four wheeling and football. Mason shows great interest of his own in landscape construction and it would not surprise her if someday he followed in her footsteps.
